ePub Narrative of the Captivity and Restoration of Mrs. Mary Rowlandson by Mary Rowlandson in History

Description

This is the true story of one man's inspired struggle for his freedom during the Korean War. He was a college student supporting himself with a night job in Seoul; South Korea when it was invaded by North Korea. Trapped in the occupied city; he was starving and penniless. He faced intense hardships and was forced to take drastic measures to outwit the enemy and ensure his survival. Using his intelligence; courage; and ingenuity; he escaped the desperate situation in Seoul. He traveled hundreds of miles by foot and eventually joined the US forces as an interpreter. His worst nightmare was realized when he was captured and taken to a North Korean prison camp. This compelling story examines his experience as a prisoner of war and how he gained his freedom under such treacherous circumstances. This book was completed just weeks before his untimely death in 1997. Now the editor; his daughter; published his writing to share the story of his ordeal with the world. ~Susanne Kim Nelson; Editor

This is an important account of the suffering of an English captive during the King Philips war in 17th century New England. A very compelling story and well worth reading.1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Narrative of the Captivity - a reviewBy SuzicatI have always been interested with history so to find a first hand account of an experience was a joy to me.To read how Mary felt about what she was going through and her fears enabled me to relive the experience through her words. She was amazing in the way she gained strength through the scriptures to carry her forward. This has been a reading experience I shall carry with me the rest of my life. I have gained strength from the spirituality of Mart White Rowlandson.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. I am glad she saw no more reason to for her sakeBy Sarah M BinghamThe profoundly disturbing and culturally interesting narrative should be read by everyone. I do not hold Rowlandson's religious views; nor her views of Native Americans; but I do not blame her either. I find it shameful that she is not more well known and that she seemingly did not write anything else in her lifetime. Although; I am glad she saw no more reason to for her sake.
