A must for those interested in studying Nagarjuna's teachingBy A CustomerThe first widely available English translation of Kumarajiva's Chinese translation of Nagarjuna's Madhyamika Karika (Middle Treatise). There are several English translations of Nagarjuna's Madhyamika Karika from both the original Sanskrit and the Tibetan versions. But almost all Chinese and Japanese Buddhist denominations study Kumarajiva's Chinese version of Nagarjuna's masterpiece. "Nagarjuna in China" contains the complete English translation of both the original text; and an ancient commentary by Pingala.A history of the "Middle Treatise" and a reivew of the doctrines and principles covered in the work are informative and well written. Since translation from Sanskrit to Chinese demanded interpretation of the deep meanings of the passages; a reading of this version of the Middle Treaties will give insight into both Nagarjuan's and Kumarajiva's viewpoints on the Three Truths of emptiness; existence and the middle way.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful.
