At Bull Run; two inexperienced; ill-trained and poorly led armies clashed in the opening engagement of the American Civil War (1861-1865). Culminating in a stalwart defensive fight by Thomas 'Stonewall' Jackson's Virginia Brigade; this is the story of the Confederacy's first victory. The author investigates the personalities of the principal commanders and examines the opposing armies; showing how the widely varying uniforms of different units caused mistakes of identity which affected the battle at crucial points. Weapons; intelligence and the almost universal inexperience of troops on both sides are all discussed; helping to explain the events of the battle itself.

WagnerAn excellent book with well written information from the experts who designed; built; flew and monitored Voyager since the beginning...to the present. I had no idea the Voyager was such a challenge until I read this book. I only knew what a success Voyager was until now. Although this book cost a few dollars; the info provided makes me feel informed much more than the news and science media ever told us before. What an acheivement Voyager 1 and 2 is for mankind. We might have thrown two bottles into the ocean....or spacecraft into the universe; but I am proud of what Voyager taught us and the gift each provides to whoever finds them; if they ever do. Voyager...and much more!By space1966The book is an excellent overview of the Voyager missions sent to explore the largest planets of our solar system: Saturn; Jupiter; Neptune and Uranus. The book gives a complete account of the spacecrafts' respective journeys and their discoveries but most important the author also brings up-to-date information that has been gathered since the Voyagers executed their fly-bys of those distant moons (information gathered via ground-based telescopes; Hubble and other spacecraft like Galileo). Although the Cassini spacecraft now orbiting planet Saturn will certainly add more information about the planet and its moons than the book contains; this work will remain as a true reference for a long time. The books is solid account of what we know of our solar system.1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. The best book out there on the Voyager MissionsBy clamsauceVery detailed and insightful. I really liked and appreciated the introduction on cosmology and the history behind the planets; their discoveries and names.
