Myths of the Cherokee

audiobook Myths of the Cherokee by James Mooney in History

Description

The "national question" and how to impose control over its diverse ethnic identities has long posed a problem for the Russian state. This major survey of Russia as a multi-ethnic empire spans the imperial years from the sixteenth century to 1917; with major consideration of the Soviet phase. It asks how Russians incorporated new territories; how they were resisted; what the character of a multi-ethnic empire was and how; finally; these issues related to nationalism.

I was really just looking for a paperback book filled with many short stories; since I have a short attention span when reading. I was expecting a small paperback; but this book is huge! It contains many short stories (1-3 pages); and it also contains a large section on Native American history which includes some old photos. I like how the stories are concrete; with no room for interpretation. For instance; some of the stories contain an unknown variable; and that's that. There is no speculation; that is just the way it was; and the story moves forward. Most of the stories include the plants and animals of the forest (which often were unhappy with man); and many of their characteristics are often explained in these stories. Clearly; the Native Americans had more respect for the natural world than we do. Overall; it's a good book; and there are enough stories to keep me busy for a long time.2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. Good resourceBy JacobThis book is old so some of the history and generalizations drawn by the author about Cherokee culture seem a bit racist today. There were some stories in it that I hadn't heard and some were slightly varied from the stories I knew. It is definitely worth buying.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Three StarsBy MtrcyclMiMiReads like a text; but I think I'll be able to use this.
