Easy to read and comprehensive.1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. McNeill's Rangers great study in Border WarfareBy Harold D. GarberThe Virginia Regimental Series has done so much to document units which were the passion and valor of the Confederacy. McNeill's Rangers has an extra dash of the grassroots intensity which enabled the CSA to continue their fight for so long. Roger Delauter has done a masterful job of bringing John Hanson McNeill and his troops alive. Living along the South Branch of the Potomac like McNeill; the story has special romance for me; but dedicated students of all facets of the history of the Epoch Struggle should spend some time understanding those who "stayed home" but contributed so much as did McNeill.2 of 3 people found the following review helpful. A "Must Read" for Civil War BuffsBy A CustomerLong ignored in getting due credit for their role in assisting the CSA in its efforts during the Civil War; "McNeill's Rangers" helps right that wrong. The author; Roger Delauter; has painstakingly researched the volumes of records and has transcribed a detailed description of this group of hard-drinking; hard-fighting partisans. But; Delauter's book is only a beginning as its well-documented bibliographies lead the reader to go from book to book; story to story and; eventually; provide a desire to visit the places where these events took place.
