Great synopses of a variety of historical topicsBy George k 43"Hourly History" is a series of short books; essays really; about a variety of historical topics. Although the writing style is occasionally sophomoric; and sometimes the facts presented vary from my understanding of history; they are intended to be brief introductions on topics and people that most have heard about but know very little about. They are a wonderful starting point for exploring historical cultures and events; and often lead to more in depth reading. Although brief (they really generally do take less than an hour to read); they are stimulating and enjoyable. I am grateful that they are being given away or sold at such a very low price; so that many people can enjoy and understand our collective past. The Mayflower JourneyBy Ryan BI; like most Americans; have a generalized idea of the Mayflower's voyage and the separatist from middle school history courses. I found this book to be informative yet succinct enough to not dredge along the information it would take to cover the subject matter fully. This book gave a good overview and many details about the life and times of religious wars in England and Europe throughout time and the reasoning for the actual voyage to the new world.This is the second book I've read since finding Hourly History a few days ago and I am hooked. I am a big fan of history and look forward to reading more from them.
