Description

Stackpole is proud to introduce the Frontier Classics; a new series that aims to resurrect long out-of-print gems of frontier history. Antiquarian and rare book dealers have previously been the only source for these books; providing first editions for premium prices. Now; these books are available in affordable; quality paperback editions; with new historical introductions written by a leading expert in the field. Ellen McGowan Biddle was the wife of James Biddle; a U.S. Army officer who saw wide service on the frontier. "Reminiscences of a Soldier's Wife" is a collection of her articulate; astute observations about life in the Army. From Macon; Georgia; to Fort Robinson; Nebraska; Ellen McGowan Biddle followed her husband throughout his career. Throughout her "reminiscences" she relates not only the day-to-day events of her life as an Army wife; but also the excitement; uncertainty; and sacrifice of life on the frontier.

Review
1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. now I know from reading this great book of non-fictionBy Ken StraferAs we learn in life; we known certain events and things took place; but never a complete story. He Professor Longacre captures for us the details and bits and pieces involved in the major tactical battle of the "Southern Horsemen". Having a family member from the 1st Virginia Cavalry I never was told why we had horseshoes; spurs; and a bridle from the Civili War in my ancestors collection; now I know from reading this great book of non-fiction. By the by; the items from the ancestor were donated to the Virginia Historical Society collection with hopes they can be available for the generations to follow.1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Good Book !!By Daryl HulveyI am a member of the SCV in Virginia and the book was informative. I was sad that it didn't talk more of other cavalrymen than JEB Stuart.
