Korean War Filmography: 91 English Language Features through 2000

audiobook Korean War Filmography: 91 English Language Features through 2000 by Robert J. Lentz in History

Description

Just as Confederate naval action is commonly overshadowed by the land battles of the Civil War; the navy's originator; Stephen Mallory; is often overlooked in favor of more famous leaders. Mallory had served as one of Florida's U.S. senators for ten years before becoming navy secretary in the Confederate government; challenged to create a valid military force where none had existed. This biography chronicles Mallory's formative years in Key West; his decades of public service; and his declining days. It discusses his career in the United States Senate; where he chaired the Committee for Naval Affairs; helping to strengthen--in an ironic twist of fate--the very navy he would later attempt to defeat. The work also examines the challenges and obstacles Mallory faced in creating a navy for the South. Special attention is given to Mallory's family relationships. Primary sources include autobiographical documents and archival records.

An Outstanding Reference GuideBy LobsterJesusI was only familiar with a handful of Korean War themed films before I read this fascinating and exhaustively researched book. Anyone with an abiding interest either in film history or popular culture would be well advised to give this volume a look; as it examines Hollywood's take on a conflict that has been largely forgotten. There are literally dozens of obscure; long forgotten films detailed in this book; many of which exist only in film archives; and they make for fascinating reading. Of particular interest are the films made during the actual war; when the outcome was far from certain and ultimately lead to an ambiguous stalemate. Bonus points for rating the films on historical accuracy.3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. Korean War Filmography: 91 English Language Features through 2000By KIMMIILentz; Roberts J. Korean War Filmography: 91 English Language Features through 2000. McFarland; 2008In this book; Robert J. Lentz deals with the lists of the Korean War films and critics. The focus of the book is to give the very detailed information of films. In first chapter; he provides the knowledge on the Korean War; and in the rest of the chapters; he talks about the movies. The basic information; credits; cast; historical accuracy level; patriotic propaganda lever; Elements; are provided for each movie with the critic. Seven different appendixes (Chronology of Films; Films Listed by Production Company; Films Listed by Levels of Accuracy and Propaganda; Films Listed by Elements of Subject and Theme; Films with Incidental Korean War References; Documentary and Compilation Films; and South Korean Films about the Korean War); Bibliography; and index are included. Long list of Bibliography adds the credibility of his critics and its reliability. The book did not intend to be written for specific group of people. However; it may work for the college-level student; specifically those who want to study Korean War or war films.
