This book helped me piece together a timeline of the locations and purposes of his many Aircraft Carrier tours there. The authors did mention the importance of the Air War. However; it may give some the impression there was no enemy air response. Maybe not many; but there were definitely Russian MIGS with very well trained pilots in Korea. Also; well deserved recognition was given to the US Air Force. The US Naval Aviators who not only supported our ground forces; brilliantly conducted air strikes on Chinese and North Korean supply lines. They should have been mentioned. I can not say enough good things about the Hourly History book series. I have encouraged my friends to take advantage of it. Thanks so much for such concise; and accurate reading on such a broad spectrum of historical topics.1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Great Introduction to "The Forgotten War"By JonesThis was a good summary of what is often called "The Forgotten War". This book gave an interesting history lesson of events that were relatively recent that affects today's world. The book was well written; and the basic events were well explained. I realize that there is more to the Korean War than this book covers; but it does cover it well in a digest format. It helped clarify some aspects of the war for me; and informed me of areas that I was not aware of. It piqued my interest to further learn about the war. I would recommend this quick read as a good introduction to the subject matter.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Great book on a forgotten warBy William HamiltonGreat book on a forgotten war. On the second level is the fight between Truman and MacArthur on who makes U.S. international policy and the civilian control of the military. All this takes place during the Joseph McCarthy Communist witch hunts and how the the US will respond to the start of the cold war. It depicts the sorry state of the U.S. military state of readiness; the US military draw down after WW II; the possible dismissal of the Marine Corp; All this takes place during a country who wants nothing to do with war or the UN.
