Juan Bautista de Anza: Basque Explorer in the New World

ePub Juan Bautista de Anza: Basque Explorer in the New World by Donald T. Garate in History

Description

What does the Bible say about civil justice? How is Christ King over the nations? Was America ever a Christian nation; and should it be one? Which Old Testament laws apply to civil life today? To what extent should the state tolerate non-Christian views and practices in the name of pluralism? These are some of the questions addressed by 16 contributors representing four positions on the biblical role of civil government. Originally delivered at a consultation on that topic; each of the four major papers is presented by a leading representative of that view and is followed by responses from the three other perspectives. The result is a vigorous exchange of ideas aimed at pinpointing areas of agreement and disagreement and equipping God's people to serve him more effectively in the political arena.

Subject Not the Person You ThinkBy F J F Jr.Pay attention. Read the subtitle carefully! The subject of this biography is not the Juan Bautista de Anza who established the first land route to San Francisco Bay in 1776 and was governor of the province of New Mexico from 1777 to 1787; but his father of the same name. This book is the first volume of what the author plans to be a three-volume series about Juan Bautista de Anza and his father. Other than a mention in the preface; little said of the son; who according to the preface; is to be the subject of volumes two and three. I am waiting for volumes two and three; and maybe only three.1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Historian's delightBy Kat KansasAs a genealogist; I found this book to be a treasure...as a history buff; I found this book to be very informative and interesting...leaned a great deal. I am mystified that Juan Baustista de Anza is never given more credit than he deserved in the history books...I highly recommend this book; it is well written and very insightful into not only the man; but the times and locations as well.
