Chamber line reached his life's peak in the Civil War; and tried to recapture it the rest of his life. And I think this realization put me off more than anything. Learn much about the man as this book was very well researched.2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. "The Post-War Years"By Joshua BeachWhile packed with information and generally interesting; "A Hero's Life and Legacy" picks up after the Civil War and deals with a somewhat more mundane life than the title promises. This is not necessarily a criticism of the book; but the product description does not make the time frame of this book clear. If you are looking for the story behind how Joshua Chamberlain went from a university professor to one of the more famous Civil War generals; this is not the book for you. On the other hand; there are a lot of stories in this book that describe how a principled; apolitical man found some struggles along the way after the last bloody battle was fought.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful.
