A very good introduction to the subjectBy MaciejAlthough the topic itself can seem horribly boring; I found this little book surprisingly interesting and I learned a lot. Even if you are not a military history buff; you could have a nice surprise reading it; as it shows a great deal of life (and death) of Japanese garrisons in the Pacific - that means those guys who you usually only see at the distance; dying; dispatched by John Wayne; Robert Mitchum and other Richard Widmark (or even Nicolas Cage...).You would not believe how many ways are there to transform a small infantry bunker (basically a hole in the ground) into a position very hard to:a) see (except when shooting starts; which is mostly too late....)b) approachc) reduce to silenced) capture or/and destroyJapanese soldiers mostly had only limited ressources to build most of their positions (the great underground complexes of Iwo Jima and Okinawa were exceptions) so they had to do with what they had (not much) in order to survive the confrontation with the most powerful army of this time. Mostly they failed - but as we all know the winners paid a VERY high price. And I will not give you any hints - try to discover by yourself; how ingenious people can be and how much they can do with very little...A really good beginning of the most recent Osprey series.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful.
