For several decades a brutal army of rebels has been raiding villages in northern Uganda; kidnapping children and turning them into soldiers or wives of commanders. More than 30;000 children have been abducted over the last twenty years and forced to commit unspeakable crimes. Grace Akallo was one of these. Her story; which is the story of many Ugandan children; recounts her terrifying experience. This unforgettable book with historical background and insights from Faith McDonnell; one of the clearest voices in the church today calling for freedom and justice will inspire readers around the world to take notice; pray; and work to end this tragedy.

BessThis is a great book on the subject of the Israelites from a historical perspective; one of the best I've ever read in terms of a general synthesis of data. It is clearly written; candid and fair; and contains all the general information you'll want to know about ancient Israel; from geography; agriculture; crafts; art; architecture; religion; and even music; among others. Isserlin falls squarely into the mainstream about what we can determine from archeology; the biblical texts; and ancient Near Eastern sources about this most controversial civilization. It is somewhat dated; but serves still as a handy standard reference work. It needed a better scholarly apparatus. There is a bibliography for each chapter at the end; but footnotes would have been helpful. Often Isserlin will note a position; but not reveal who holds the position; or refer indirectly to primary source material without naming the source. But a good place to begin overall.1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. a mustBy Marcos E. Excellent TextBy J. A MagillThis work covers a broad range of topics related to the life and culture of ancient Israel. Several other works have been written on the subject. In my opinion this is one of the best. It covers everthing from town planning to agriculture. All and all an excellent window into how an ancient people lived.
