WOW!By Mo LuqmanThis book dispels numerous previously held narratives/conceptions regarding West Indian/Caribbean History; with a particular emphasis on Jamaica. Dr Afroz’s paradigm shift extends to other disciplines; however; her ingenuity in deciphering cultural religious traits and attaching Islam as the true origin of these behavioral practices is what I found most intriguing The author's hypothesis is articulately argued. Even more compelling; is the fact that she actually lived in Jamaica for about 25 years. A must read for anyone interested in subjects such as Caribbean History; the psychological impact of Slavery;Historiography;Islam and Maroon culture.4 of 5 people found the following review helpful. Eye OpenerBy marion pryce-whiteThis book has given me more information on my country's history. The history they taught me in school was so one sided. Now I know who the Maroons really are and where their ancestors originated. Every educator in Jamaica should read this book and offer a balance view on the the history of the Maroons and its influence on our Jamaican society.
