Curiosity piqued by two poems written by his great-great-grandmother initiated David Thackery’s scholarly exploration into the history of the Sixty-sixth Ohio Volunteer Infantry and the wartime history of Champaign County; Ohio; from which it was recruited. Not only a military history; A Light and Uncertain Hold is also a penetrating and provocative social history which deals with the homefront; morale; reenlistment; and the memory and commemoration of the war. The words and stories of individual soldiers give depth and substance to the regiment’s experience.

He is enjoying the books about both the Greek and Egyptian Gods.3 of 4 people found the following review helpful. useful introduction to the world of Greek godsBy Carol C.The short text dedicates a two-page spread to each of the major Greek gods goddesses; providing information on the role of that god how he fits in to the very complicated family tree of Greek gods; with pages cross-referenced to other gods. In design layout; this book reminds me of the "Eyewitness" guides. I found myself wanting more information and wishing that the text were a little longer than 42 pages (not including the two page index) -- but perhaps that's just a sign I'm ready to advance beyond books written primarily for children. Overall; I think this is a fun; well-illustrated book that young people would return to time time again.
