ePub I Hear No Bugles by Robert W. Mercy in History

Description

May 1809. After getting off to a thundering start with his campaign; Napoleon had to carry out a difficult military maneuver: crossing a river; in strength in full view of the enemy. The Austrians under Archduke Charles put up a vigorous resistance and together with the capricious River Danube contributed to the French Emperor's first defeat on the Continent.Gilles Boué is a military history specialist and regularly collaborates to the history department of the French Ministry of Defense. His bipolar view of the battle helps to explain the reasons for this defeat.Vividly illustrated with battle scenes; engravings; photos and plates of uniforms.

The distance separating life from death; sanity from abject madness; fate and destiny from willful planning and the most insane cruelties from the richness of human kindness is measured in nanoseconds. One cannot put the book down. Mercy brings the reader to stand there with him in the most unforgiving of distant worlds. I have never yet come upon a work to compare with this.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Great bookBy beloved777I met the author and was impressed by his stories on some of his experiences in movies and so forth. When I bought the book; I enjoyed seeing his picture in the book. Great book for history buffs. My 15 year old son read it and enjoyed it immensely. Definitely recommend!
