Homoeroticism in the Biblical World: A Historical Perspective

ebooks Homoeroticism in the Biblical World: A Historical Perspective by Martti Nissinen in History

Description

The Riveting Story of the Reformation and Its Significance TodayThe Reformation unfolded in the cathedrals and town squares of Europe--in Wittenberg; Worms; Rome; Geneva; and Zurich--and it is a stirring story of courage and cowardice; of betrayal and faith. The story begins with the Catholic Church and its desperate need for reform. The dramatic events that followed are traced from John Wycliffe in England; to the burning of John Hus at the stake in Prague; to the rampant sale of indulgences in the cities and towns of Germany; to Martin Luther nailing the Ninety-Five Theses to the door of the Castle Church in 1517; to John Calvin's reform of Geneva. Erwin Lutzer captures the people; places; and big ideas that fueled the Reformation and explains its lasting influence on the church and Western Civilization.

Mind you; scholars had known for decades about the actual sexuality of ancient Greek society; but this information had not been released to the laity. This book is somewhat outdated; but worth reading today anyway; to get a sense of how controversial the topic once was; and how hard it was to get accurate information out there about male-to-male eroticism.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Cultural ContextBy Kennon ElliottThis book is a great compendium of near eastern texts dealing with homoerotic behavior through the biblical periods.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. this book is a good place to beginBy Toby SandersThis book is one that has not always received the recognition it deserves. Maybe it would receive more notice if it was available on Kindle. It introduces the reader to a new way to view the ancient biblical world and forces the reader to consider that the way in which people have interpreted the Bible should be questioned. If you are interested in what the Bible really says; this book is a good place to begin.
