Most Informative and EntertainingBy Virginia AllainThis is quite entertaining reading; beyond being an account of the regiment's movements during the Civil War. I discovered it while working on genealogy and finding I have an ancestor who served in Company A of this regiment. It includes first-hand accounts from recruitment to mustering in; and training. As the chapters progress; you learn about incidents; often humorously told; of long days marching; nights huddling in a tent with rain running through it and of foraging for food to supplement the rations. There is great detail on the Siege of Vicksburg; descriptions of scenery and people... Really a great book for learning about the life of a Civil War infantryman. The copy I read was available online and was searchable.
