MelcherHave been looking for years for an original copy of this regimental history; without success; so I am happy to have found this photocopied reprint. While the original typeface blurred somewhat when photocopied; it is still very readable. The quality of a few of the original photographs is very poor; and one is even unrecognizable; but I did not buy it for the photos. I bought it because it is a primary source document; written by a lieutenant in one of the companies; who collected from other regiment soldiers their recollections and compiled them into a coherent narrative. An unexpected plus was the roster of the entire regiment. Each soldier is listed by company; with a notation of those who were killed; wounded; or captured; along with bios of many who survived the war. It is fascinating to read what became of survivors after the war; from 1865 to 1900; the book's original publication date. The cover is heavy paperback with a slick; durable finish.
