History Decoded: The 10 Greatest Conspiracies of All Time

audiobook History Decoded: The 10 Greatest Conspiracies of All Time by Brad Meltzer; Keith Ferrell in History

Description

The Mythology of Venus is a collection of essays that summarizes the archaeoastronomy; calendar associations; religious and cultural icons; and myths identified with the planet Venus. The book concentrates on Western Europe; the Mediterranean; the Near East; and the East from the Paleolithic Age to the Iron Age. It reveals the archetype of a goddess associated with the planet Venus who is identified with transformation; spiritual resurrection; and enlightenment. The characteristics of the goddess are steeped in sexual metaphors which contain images of birth and re-birth; and they reveal a pattern of symbols that follows the journey of the planet Venus through its cycles in the night sky. Moreover; the journey of Venus and the corresponding icons associated with the goddess are part of an intricate pattern of symbolic language that is seen on ancient monuments and on the ancient calendars of several cultures. Temples from France and Ireland to Greece and Malta trace the journey of the planet Venus and the story of the goddess of Venus.

This is an elegant and entertaining coffee table book (though not of large size) that is quite moderate in tone and entirely factual; with emphasis on the decoding rather than the conspiracy. It's especially enticing for a youngster because each conspiracy is described in a short story and presented with a sealed envelope containing a facsimile document that holds the key to or at least represents the conspiracy. It is worth every penny...makes me smile to see it lying on my bookshelf. Kids pick it up whenever they have a few minutes to wait; read/revisit one story at a time.1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Don't waste your money...By Cynthia K. RobertsonIf you watch the television series; History Decoded; you don’t need to buy the book History Decoded: The 10 Greatest Conspiracies of All Time by Brad Meltzer with Keith Farrell. You will have seen it all before. Even if you don’t watch the show; this book is pretty much a waste. Those with a working knowledge of most of these “conspiracies” will have a better knowledge-base than is given in this book. The only reason that I gave it 2 stars was because I thought the JFK assassination chapter was decent.Meltzer obviously breaks this book into ten chapters; or the ten greatest conspiracies. He admits up front that these might not be the greatest conspiracies; but they are his favorites. Some of them aren’t even conspiracies; but more mystery like the Georgia Guidestones and the location of the White House Corner Stone. Several of the ten conspiracies include what happened to all the Confederate gold; is there any gold in Fort Knox; UFOs in Roswell and Area 51; and was John Wilkes Booth rally apprehended. I can’t say that any of these conspiracies keep me up at night. So my recommendation is that if you feel that you must read this book; at least check it out from the library.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Very few answersBy Kindle CustomerI like reading about conspiracies and secret societies since I was a kid. I found this book for the most part just a rehash of other books on the subject. There was not much decoding in my view just a here is a conspiracy we can't prove or disprove. It is like watching a TV show without the dramatic music or commercial breaks. Now don't get me wrong some were interesting like the chapter on JFK's assassination. The one on John Wilkes Booth was just an rehash of old theories of did he or didn't he died in that barn; but the same can be said about several other person's from our history. Others were pretty new conspiracy theories to me. The only one that I had a big problem with was the theory on Dan(D.B.) Cooper there was too much circumstantial evidence for his claim and I want to say what about the money to find out what I am talking about read the book. I think if you are conspiracy buff you will find this book interesting or if you want to delve into conspiracies this is a good place to start.
