Because of his long experience with the formulation of military strategy in the United States; Admiral Wylie’s analyses and opinions are well worth the attention of military professionals; government leaders; newspaper editors; commentators and scholars. Because he has a freewheeling mind and is unhampered by orthodox military terms and the prevailing dogmas; his book will be of keen interest to laymen concerned about our nation’s welfare and future.

An even if a bit too detailed expose on what very easily could have been....By J. A. KunzlerA good tome on the likely consequences of a US invasion of the Japanese home island. Only 4 stars because some of the detail was such that I got a bit lost; but otherwise... this book explains why the two atom bombs prevented an even worse holocaust. In fact did you know that soldiers getting wounded or KIA are getting purple hearts originally made for the 1945-1946 Japanese invasion? Yes; several million were expected wounded just on the US side. It was even expected that two American and one Soviet invasion would be necessary to subdue the Japanese people and end World War II; with many more atom bomb drops.Scary stuff. This book is a must-read if you want to truly understand the morality of Hiroshima Nagasaki.
