Grand Forage 1778: The Battleground Around New York City (Journal of the American Revolution Books)

ebooks Grand Forage 1778: The Battleground Around New York City (Journal of the American Revolution Books) by Todd W. Braisted in History

Description

Comparing the United States with other market democracies and one state with another; this book offers irrefutable evidence that unequal societies create poor health; more social conflict; and more violence. Richard Wilkinson; a pioneering social scientist; addresses the growing feeling—so common in the United States—that modern societies; despite their material success; are social failures. The Impact of Inequality explains why inequality has such devastating effects on the quality and length of our lives.Wilkinson shows that inequality leads to stress; stress creates sickness on the individual and mass level; and overall society suffers widespread unhappiness and high levels of violence; depression; and mistrust across the social spectrum. The evidence he presents is incontrovertible: social and political equality are essential to improve life for everyone. Wilkinson argues that even small reductions in inequality can make an important difference—for; as this book explains; social relations are always built on material foundations.

He has woven a tale about appears at first glance of a series of small unit operations in Northern New Jersey and Westchester County New York. In actually it was a large scale campaign in its own right. It had amphibious operations; naval operations and the movement of over 6000 ground troops of Crown forces out of the environs of New York City. The book illustrated the needs of the Crown forces stationed in New York City of just not simple occupation and subjugation but how to ensure survival and to project forces elsewhere in the colonies but to the Atlantic Provinces and to the islands of the Caribbean. Enjoy!8 of 8 people found the following review helpful. This excellent book focuses on a relatively unknownBy CustomerThis excellent book focuses on a relatively unknown; but very important; campaign that took place in the area of New York City; Bergen County; New Jersey and Westchester County; New York in 1778. Through quotes from pension records; newspaper reports and first-person accounts of the actions; the reader is given the participants’ view of the movements; raids and day-to-day struggles that both soldiers and citizens endured. The outstanding research is presented in a flowing writing style that educates and entertains. This book is highly recommended for anyone interested in the Revolutionary War; the history of the NJ/NY region; or anyone interested in learning what it was like to live in the midst of such conflict.6 of 6 people found the following review helpful. Meticulous; groundbreaking researchBy Todd AndrlikAs the editor of Journal of the American Revolution; I want to welcome readers to the inaugural volumes of our book series. In addition to our online magazine and annual volumes; Journal of the American Revolution (allthingsliberty.com) also oversees this series of microhistories. Our mission is to feature meticulous; ideally groundbreaking research and well-written narratives about unknown or lesser-known topics. And Todd Braisted delivers on that promise with his outstanding Grand Forage 1778. Look for more great titles in the Journal of the American Revolution book series; including J. L. Bell's The Road to Concord (May 2016) and Steven Park's The Burning of His Majesty's Schooner Gaspee (November 2016). Thank you and enjoy!
