John Hayward describes the movements of the regiment throughout the war. The doings of officers and men are related; almost as if by a soldier in the command. Capt. Francine; Col Revere and "Fighting Joe" Hooker are discussed in context. The finest hour of the NJ 7th was at Chancellorsville; even though Gen. Lee gave the boys in blue a spanking and ended the rise of Hooker in the Federal ranks. The book includes many photographs of soldiers; plus some battlefield pictures and maps. Complete regimental roster is provided; with outcomes. I looked for a relative I thought was there; but he was in the 2nd NJ Vol. His half-btrother; however was in the 7th; and I was pleased to find a picture of him.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. I really loved it.By michael N.Very well written; a true regimental history and not a rehash of the Civil War with the regiment mentioned every now and then. The book is well documented with primary source quotes. I really loved it.
