One Of The Best Books To Understand What German Soul MeansBy doug from clevelandVery much enjoyed reading this book and wish I had purchased it before my first trip to Germany. Like so many others I thought Germans just didn't care for Americans and were somewhat cold and distant until the author explained in depth why they are much more cautious in how they react to all strangers. With a little effort and consideration it becomes very easy to create a relaxed and enjoyable relationship with some very special people who truly enjoy your company after a trust is built. This book is a must read for anyone doing business with German nationals even though it is slightly dated because it was written in the late 90's.The book is very business orientated and I wish a little more time had been devoted to social relationships with common people.Anyone of German ancestory will find it a fun read because it will help explain some perplexing traits we have carried down through the generations far removed from original homeland.5 of 5 people found the following review helpful. Oh those Germans!By R.Michael FisherMy wife and I are planning a trip to Germany in 2014. I am half German and half Irish. We did Ireland in 2014 and it was better than we imagined. This book really helps to understand the German people and will assist us in planning our trip. It also helped me understand my own thinking and traits that are so German. My people came over from Freinsheim; Germany in 1723 and got 300 acres of prime farm land in Pennsburg; Pa. Our portion of the family later came to East Liverpool; Ohio and obtained a 420 acre farm. We live on 20 acres of the farm and so look forward to our visit to Freinsheim and the rest of Germany. This book would help anyone planning a trip to Germany for finding your roots as we will do or for doing business with the Germans. The book is also great for the history of Germany and their customs. Author Greg Nees has done a great job of capturing Germany and her people. Germany Unraveling An EnigmaBy ana mendozaI really enjoyed reading this book. I bought it because I came in contact with German businessmen and; even though I have travelled all over Europe; I suddenly realized I did not know anything about German culture. By culture I do not mean Beethoven; Schiller and German Riesling. I mean the everyday costumes of the Germans in general. What it means when they invite you to their home; how they enjoy sitting around the dinner table and having a long conversation (as opposed to having dinner at Mc Donald's in a rush!). How they are used to separating business and pleasure; etc. It helped me find a place where to stand to see Germany and Germans from a new perspective. The author covers many areas and gives lots of examples (many will make you laugh) and comparisons; to help the reader (presumably not a German) have a better understanding of Germany and its people.
