The outstanding contribution of the Canadians who served with the UN Peacekeeping force during the Korean War is one which; regrettably; has received little attention. Between July 1950 and August 1955; a total of eight Canadian destroyers performed 21 single tours of duty manned by more than 6;000 sailors. In recounting the efforts of the many who served in those ships; the author depicts a navy determined to assert its distinct Canadian identity. His is an account of a war viewed from the vantage point of the lower deck; of one whose own experiences and those of his shipmates are testimony to the fact that those who served with the RCN in Korea acquitted themselves admirably and in a manner that has long deserved the recognition and respect of all Canadians.
