A Professional Treatise.By leecarIn the truest sense of the word treatise; this work by Egan is a thorough in depth study of the life and times; the success and failure; of John Charles Fremont in five expeditions; to this day acknowledged by some of us as heroic for his brave explorations and his Western Leadershp; then declared by others; in the shadow of General Kearney; as mutinous. After Kearney's successful by-letter-of-law courtmartial of Fremont; who had assumed Governorship of California after the order to do so by Commander Stockton; Fremont was reinstated by Polk; and again received public acclaimation by his successful fifth expedition; his Senatorship of California; and subsequent candidacy for President (even though he wasn't elected).0 of 0 people found the following review helpful.
