National BestsellerWith his unique blend of intrepidity; tongue-in-cheek humor; and wide-eyed wonder; Ian Frazier takes us on a journey of more than 25;000 miles up and down and across the vast and myth-inspiring Great Plains. A travelogue; a work of scholarship; and a western adventure; Great Plains takes us from the site of Sitting Bull's cabin; to an abandoned house once terrorized by Bonnie and Clyde; to the scene of the murders chronicled in Truman Capote's In Cold Blood. It is an expedition that reveals the heart of the American West.

There's a lot of interesting information inside but the copy I received appears to be reaching the end of its rope. It has been well used and is stained and curling; which isn't really an issue; but the spine is also torn so pages are falling out. Because of this a couple of pages are also missing as it skips from page 396 to 401; I'm not sure if it is missing any others. I really just need it to get me through the class; so as long as it does so it's fine.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Must read for African American history classBy Myia DickensAmazing book!! It not only hightlights the heavy hitters in history; but it has small stories about the unknown heroes that you will never hear about in other textbooks. This book is also great at connecting all the puzzle pieces in history. Each new chapter doesn't just start a new section in history like more history textbooks; but it feels like an actual boom where each chapter is dependent on the other. The primary documents section also gives the book a more human touch that isn't found in most history books as well.2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. The book was in such great condition that I didn't want to write in itBy ZornThe book was in such great condition that I didn't want to write in it. However; I managed to mark it with lines for my African-American history course at FAMU of Tallahassee; Florida. With this book; I managed to earn an A in the course! It is also a great read. You learn a great deal of the authentic side of the black man's history in America.
