Flying the Hump: In Original World War II Color

audiobook Flying the Hump: In Original World War II Color by Jeff Ethell in History

Description

Read about the fascinating life of Benjamin Franklin in this beautifully illustrated version of his autobiography.American icon Benjamin Franklin is known for many things: he published the famous Poor Richard's Almanack; helped found the world-famous University of Pennsylvania; and was the first Postmaster General of the United States. His iconography is everywhere. His likeness adorns; among other things; the United States' hundred-dollar bill. Franklin was a wildly intriguing personality; as his autobiography makes plain. From his hoarding of his pay as a teenager to buy books to his askance at such habits as drinking beer; from his work as a printer to his experiments with electricity; this is the story of Franklin's life--told as only he could tell it--in the years before the American Revolution.Benjamin Franklin's writings represent a career of literary; scientific; and political efforts which extended nearly the entire eighteenth century and the birth of the United States. This heavily illustrated version of Franklin's autobiography includes his reflections on diverse questions such as philosophy and religion; social status; electricity; American national characteristics; war; and the status of women.A classic in the American canon; Franklin's autobiography is a must-read for any serious student of American history.

AubleI'm passing this fine "heritage" book (told with many photos and paragraphs by the men who were there) on to our children (and grand-children) so that they'll better know what their grandfather did as a China-Burma-India ATC pilot... and died doing it.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Five StarsBy John C PuckettLove this book!6 of 6 people found the following review helpful. Simply fascinating...By Michel JobéI bought this book quite a long time ago; having a quick look through it before shelving it in my (extensive) aviation library; waiting to be picked up for reading. It took quite some time; but it was worth it!No extensive discussion of politics or war strategies here; just the fascinating stories of men doing the job they have to do; day in; day out; recounted in a way that puts us at their side in the cockpits... fascinating flying stories. The iconography is extensive; all in colour; and does not center only on aircraft but also on landscapes and autochtones' day to day lives; a real reportage of how it was to be there.Mention is done in the book about the "Hump pilots association". I made a quick research on the net to find it; only to discover that the association was dissolved in 2006 due to the disappearance of most members. These real heroes are now mostly gone; but this book is a wonderful tribute to their accomplishment. Get it if you can!
