Incredible account of Cortes the manBy Matt NI'm a casual researcher of Mayan history and I bought this primarily to follow the journey of Cortes through Guatemala after his invasion of Mexico. Its amazing to think that; after more than 500 years; you can read his letters to Spain and descriptions of his military tactics. Like the account given by Bernal Diaz; there is undoubtedly historical bias present in terms of glorifying the conquest but Cortes also praises the courage and strategy of the Aztecs and other tribes. History is obviously written by the victor; but perhaps no leader in history came closer to being the loser as the Spaniards risked their lives every hour near the edge of defeat. The conquest will always be controversial but this provides a glimpse into Cortes the man as well as the general.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Five StarsBy Mr. Francis E.
