You may be thinking; “Not another history book...” I promise this book will not disappoint you. These writings by Schneir will help you understand the need for feminism (or simply equality). Feminism has not appeared out of thin air. This collection shows us advocates of feminism engaging in significant thought before taking any action. Brave people have struggled for the progress we have made and presently enjoy. After reading this text; you will likely show more appreciation for your freedoms and quality of life. The book references historical feminists and shares their writing with us. We receive some information about each author before diving into their minds and experiences. This provides context and proves helpful. It informs us about the nature and level of the author’s education. It informs us about the time period they lived in and persons they associated with. It describes actions they took and circumstances they were dealing with; for example; the book tells us about Abigail Adams appealing to her husband. She asked him to show kindness and generosity to women when assisting in the formation of a new code of laws. He laughed at her. Still; she tried at the risk of being scorned and considered improper for doing so.After each reading; I had to close the book and resonate with my thoughts and the text. Sharing my thoughts and asserting my rights is a regular act for me. I never pause to think about being punished or taken seriously. My spouse applauds me for this. Women of the distant past had to proceed with caution and effectively make use of their intellect and wit. It saddens me but I love knowing where we come from. I say we because it applies to both men and women. The pieces in this book are not very long. You can read the entire text or whichever piece you desire while still gaining valuable insight. The book is divided in sections; the sections are: eighteenth-century rebels; women alone; an American woman’s movement; men as feminists; and twentieth-century themes. This makes it easy to make your reading choice.I highly recommend this book! There are various historical writings that inspire deep-thinking and gratitude. You will not regret reading this!1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Other men can enjoy this practical and useful work on the importance of ...By Daniel CazierThis is such a valuable anthology; and it would benefit anyone who chose to look into its topics. Other men can enjoy this practical and useful work on the importance of female members of society; whose successful interpretations of their misrepresentation and abandonment in the male sphere add to the human experience. All the writings in the collection come from earlier generations who knew the subjects equally well as their modern contemporaries; but with more first-hand insight.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful.
