A Great JourneyBy SkeepViewing the lives of those who ministered during the Civil War and at the Battle of Gettysburg while the idea of Chaplains was forming in the institution of the services. Thoroughly documented and insightful. Contemporary service chaplains would do well to read this as few will see the horror of human lives destroyed as these did during the Civil War. And many of them fell in battle too; doing what they did as best they could without training or precedent; in a conflict besmirched by so much internal national strife; misunderstanding; resentment; and sadness. Despite this; the book faithfully describes their role and services in that environment.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Five StarsBy Bonnie J.
