A "Few" Faces of ConfederatesBy Dr. WatsonThere are a few "faces" (images) from the Confederate/Union Navies; but too few. does not let the buyer see the index of names/photos; so it is impossible to see what you're getting. I would have given this one a pass; as it looks like it's more about alcoholic and bumbling idiots. For instance; the author gives great attention to a bumbling idiot of a Confederate "Engineer" (Brown) on one vessel; while ignoring the Confederate Medal of Honor winner; Lt. Charles W. Read; who sank more Union ships in fewer days than any other Confederate in a Navy command position.Yet; we get no picture of Read; which are are readily available. Instead we get a picture of the idiot 3rd Engineer Eugene Brown; who was inept to say the least. I'd like to see a revised edition with a separate chapter on Read. Certainly; he's worth more than a few sentences.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Civil War History anglesBy EsparkaRonald's 4th book is fully crafted and cared for. The use of a strategy of investigative process; an entire community of enthusiasts assisted in opening avenues of research which was then utilized to crosscheck known histories of identified subjects in order to help identify subsequent subjects in a photograph. The narrative goes way deeper than any of us regular folks ever had access to before. All of Ronald S. Coddington's books come highly recommended.
