A frequently occurring example being: "According to Danish archivists..." Which work were they referencing? What is the series; box; and folder number? What is the title of the document and its date? No such information is given. At the conclusion of each chapter; sources are simply listed as "The Danish State Archives." This information is not useful. The book is poorly composed -- subject matter jumps here and there; concluding chapters see the author reminiscing about listening to the island storytellers. Grammatically the author makes frequent use of the apostrophe mark; denoting historical points he thinks are amusing -- rather bad form.Generally speaking this is the work of a hobbyist who is entertained by the subject matter he's collected; anybody interested in interpretations of the social; economic; or moral ramifications of the subject matter will be disappointed. General-interest readers on the other hand my find this book an interesting and perhaps even engaging.1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. DelgadoOutstanding eyewitness accounts; and even better references regarding slavery in the Danish archives! Easy read; completed in one sitting!
