AliI got this book to A. practice my Spanish and B. learn a bit about Spanish history; and I definitely got both (and then some) with this text. It's definitely meant for students - at the end of sections there are comprehension and discussion questions and a list of sources to check out. I'd say it's for the intermediate/advanced student; someone who has studied Spanish for at least a few years. In terms of content; this book is pretty much an overview of the history; and doesn't get into TOO much detail; which is ideal if you haven't studied Spanish history/cultural at all/very little. The book is divided into 5 units; dedicated to I. la prehistoria hasta la edad media; II. siglo de oro; III. siglo de luces y reformas (siglos 18 y 19); IV. Siglo XX; V. presente y futuro (book published in 1998 so it's un poco pasado ahora!) There's a particular focus on the arts - literature; art; music; which I love because it'll make a nice reference book for most any Spanish literature class.I also have to say that I love the style too - it's clear and concise and pretty easy to understand; but it's not really dumbed down either. Love it! :)0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. This is an excellent synopsis. If you need to brush up on ...By Sheryl L. BurlesonThis is an excellent synopsis. If you need to brush up on Spain for an exam or just get an overview for your personal satisfaction; this book is a great help. It touches on many aspects of Spanish civilization from history to art and music. It doesn't get real in-depth; but it will spur your interest to pursue some of the topics further.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Five StarsBy Roberto G.Excellent
