I have many books on Egypt and this is by far my favorite. I am somebody who believes books should be both informative AND have stunning visuals. It's very hard to get interested in an ancient civilization; or have it be brought to life in your mind; without being immersed in its art and architecture. This book does indeed have both a wealth of valuable and diverse information; and many; many beautiful color photos that bring the text to life. It has an extensive list of deities; their symbols; their cult centres; their myths; and their functions. What I found particularly interesting is that this book puts each of the myths within historical and cultural context; helping you understand how its symbolism was significant to the ancient Egyptians. The book also has plenty of information about pharaohs; temples; priests; and magic/ritual.The Egyptians did not have a morbid fascination with death. They loved life; and wanted it to last all eternity!
