Great BookBy fishyksI bought an 70's version of the book for a great price. the book was great; and it was sad to hear what for a sad and harsh life Maria and her family even had before the war. the way they were sent to Siberia when Maria was little; and how harsh their lives were during the Russian revolution. I found it especially sad that her Mom had so many children and most of them were burried in places they were forced to live. never will the family come back and visit their graves. then later during the time Maria was held by the Russians and afterwards was housed by the new East German State was very upsetting. I was lucky enough that my family as refugees from the East ended up in the free part of Berlin; but Maria was held and abused by the Stasi. What for a sad life she had. I can only recommend the book.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. We seldom hear of what happened to Germans and Russians ...By Sue WagnerWe seldom hear of what happened to Germans and Russians after the war. Though the persecution of innocents continued; this Christian woman relied on her God and came through with a remarkable story to tell.1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Refreshing winds of honesty and God-centered human resilienceBy george cuffThis was a very good read with such a realistic assessment of the atrocities of Nazism and the indifference of mainstream society. Just when you think no one could handle all of the horror; the key characters show their unbelievable reliance on the Lord and their resilience as a result. If you enjoy reading the history of the Second World War including the harsh realities of it; this book will keep you thoroughly engrossed.
