Since its discovery by Europeans in 1500; explorers; visionaries; soldiers of fortune; men of God; scientists; and slavers have been drawn to the legendary Amazon. The River Sea is a sweeping chronicle of those brave souls; ranging form the Spanish seafarer Vicente Pinzón; who discovered the river; to contemporary heroes and heroines; like Sister Dorothy Stang and Chico Mendes; whose efforts to save the rain forest cost them their lives.Among others in this vast cast of characters who people the drama of the Amazon is Francisco de Orellana; the first European to traverse the river from the Andes to the sea; the fiery priest Bartolomé de las Casas; defender of the indigenous peoples; the great scientist explorers Alexander von Humboldt and Alfred Russell Wallace; the madmen and psychopath Lope de Aguirre; and the Peruvian Evangeline; Isabel Godin; who in 1769 crossed the continent; braving the terrors of the jungles to reunite with her husband; whom she had not seen in twenty years. The River Sea is a compelling account of five centuries of the history; the myths; and the legends of RÃo Amazonas; the most exotic and fascinating locale on Earth.

The "War of drone" is now realityBy Marco De MontisSince the beginning of the new century the drones revolutionized the whole scene of Air Power: now “the war of drones†is no more belonging to sci.fi movie; but by long time is a reality. This very interesting book can be considered the second volume of “Bird of prey†written and published by the same effective team Yenne/Specialty press. This book analyzed the drone world since the beginning till to year 2010; whereas this new analyzes all the huge improvements since that date and traces the future.Bill Yenne is quite effective in describing the fact packed operational history of Predator; Reaper and many more UCAVs. True gems are the chapters devoted to the complex operational organization; the C3I communication network and the related command hierarchy that in some critical missions reaches also the President of the USA.Then there is a technical and historical overview of the main drones all over the world; with our poor Europe enchained many times in national pride nonsense that tracked to disaster too many projects. The book put a glimpse in the future with the Collier Trophy awarded X-47B and other incredible developments: a must have for any aviation fan and many defense analysts too.
