This made me wonder "Is there any such thing as Theistic Satanism?"This book answers that question. We learn of how the Yezidis of northern Iraq and surrounding area are perhaps the only ones who have an organized religion that revolves around pleasing Satan rather than God.As for their sacred texts; they have the "Al-Jilwah" (The Revelation) and "Mashaf Res" (The Black Book). Both books* are included in this work; although they are very short; about 10 pages when combined. Nonetheless; these 10 pages are rich in content. The Revelation reads as if it were penned by Satan himself! The Black Book; on the other hand; covers their view of the Creation; Adam and Eve; Noah and the Flood and the Miraculous Birth of Yezid; before concluding with a few words about rituals; beliefs and organization.* From reading the commentary from Isya Joseph; it sounds like The Revelation and Black Book; as presented here; are not verbatim translations; but rather notes taken from those who had won enough confidence in the Yezidis that they were willing to share with them the gist of what those books said.Much of this book is also speculation; but Isya Joseph does a good job of trying to show all the possible explanations for their origins and religious practices.Still; as one can see in the Bibliography; there is a stunning amount of historical documents; travelogues and other works that mention the Yezidiz. One book that was not on their list--and was first how I came to hear of the Yezidiz--was William Seabrook's travelogue Adventures in Arabia. Much--if not all--of what I first read in that book agrees with what I read here.As a Christian; this is obviously I religion I would not take seriously; but their history and symbolism is quite fascinating. When you read this book you'll see why the peacock makes a perfect Satanic symbol. Most of the quoted books are written by historians and archaeologists from the 1850s; so there is a wealth of potential reading to be had for one who is truly interested in the history; development and influence of religions.
