The timeline was inconsistent and all over the place. He references all the people who had helped him in various cities; which is great for genealogical purposes; but for a story line; it is impossible to keep track of the hundreds of characters and remember who is who. At times; a chapter here or there felt more like a history lesson from the Jewish perspective than his account of his life story. Because the story line was so disconnected; it made it difficult to connect with the main character. I love reading survivor's stories; and therefore still gave this book 2 stars - it helped that the book was full of photos and other documents that supported the choppy account.2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. A Triumphant LifeBy OracleThis book starts out as a heartbreaking chronicle of an 11-year-old Jewish boy trying to escape the horrors of Hitler's Germany. He spends the years from 1939 until 1945 hiding out and being hidden from Nazi troopers. He is captured and escapes; is nearly blown to bits by an artillery shell; hides in terror in physically torturous places and emerges as an admirable young man with a positive attitude. He expresses gratitude for the Christians who risked their lives to save him.The book ends with his later life; He marries and becomes the patriarch of a wonderful family of high-achieving descendants.The only draw back to the narrative ist he plethora of characters with hard to remember names.2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. Extraordinary Story of Human GritBy JustmeAt first I thought the story hard to read as in finding a rhythm of word flow. It took awhile; but soon the content was engaging enough that I was distracted from that style of writing. This man is truly remarkable in his endurance; drive and intelligence. How he could remember all those details is unbelievable. A very good book of a man's spirit of survival and determination to beat the odds against him. What an inspiration!
