Excellent book on little known historyBy Kindle CustomerThis proved to be an excellent book on a person and period of time that has had little acknowledgement in the past. This should be required reading in history classes. Although I am not of black heritage that I know of my mother was a postmaster of a small town for 25 years and I know how children were a great part of her life as such. She loved it when they came to the post office and she was able to a acknowledge them each in their own right. She had a " hug" window where each of them could get a hug from her and a moment of her time. She never forgot them and they did not forget her. She was also tied to the Cubs; the Chicago Cubs! And her name was Mary; too. Great story.3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. If you enjoy historical fictionBy H. OliverIf you enjoy historical fiction; you won't be able to stop reading this American West story full of drama and authentic characters. If you gravitate towards social justice issues and enjoy dramas with contrary points of view; look no further.McConnell expertly transports the reader into the landscape of Montana. Her prose lingered in my mind and prompted me to imagine how I might have fared as a pioneer in Mary Fields' world. I love stories that ignite me; inspire me to root and cheer for fearless risk-taking women!3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. Extraordinary BookBy Jo Ellen GillmarAbout an extraordinary woman. This is a true story about a black lady in Montana in the years of settlements. She did unbelievable things and succeeded at all. If you like biographies; this is the finest out there.
