Carolina Virginia coastal naval Civil WarBy Capt BillWell documented short history of William Barker Cushing's naval actions before; during and after the Civil War. It was not intended to be a life history of my first cousin third generation and namesake but is very good history of his naval career and touch's on his 2 Army brothers and Milton who was a Navy paymaster.3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. Great Civil War Ancestry Research SourceBy Dragon Lover's WifeMy husband is a distant relative of this Cushing family was thrilled to recieve this book. He's shared much of it's content with his Dad who is a major history buff. A great read for any Civil War buff or anyone who just enjoys a great story.2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. Enjoyable but perhaps a bit forcedBy Stratiotes Doxha TheonIf you enjoy something a little out of the ordinary from traditional military histories; this could be ideal for you. At times the writing style seems directed more at young adults than adults; it is still an enjoyable read with enough serious content to entertain most military historians. The swashbuckling Cushing on the edge of the modern era proves to be an interesting topic in himself and the writing style that focuses on action at the expense of depth may be precisely what conveys his story best. All in all; an interesting and concise study of unconventional warfare in America's War Between the States.
