IN 1951 HISTORIAN OSCAR HANDLIN SAID "ONCE I THOUGHT TO WRITE A HISTORY OF THE IMMIGRANTS IN AMERICA. THEN I DISCOVERED THAT THE IMMIGRANTS WERE AMERICAN HISTORY.
