The author sites a lot of references; mostly online sources. It is just a general overview of the roles of women before; during and after the American Civil War. It was informative but was more like walking along listening to a tour guide speak. There was a lot of repetitive phrases and she made the same point over and over again. Very poor editing. A lot of typos and some of the dates did not add up. A good overview for students but don't go looking for much more.
