KwashnakThe American Civil War Sesquicentennial has stoked the interest in the conflict to heights that have not been seen in a long time. Into this fray; the Civil War Trust has created a list of 150 essential things to do in order to try and understand and get a feel for the conflict. The 150 list represents a distillation of a much larger To-Do list on the Trust's Web site; and represent a starting point to explore conflict. The list narrows down on 150 things by focusing on the conflict itself instead of the causes leading up to the war; and represents a wide gamut of experiences from visiting sites to learning the experiences of people living in the period through museums and living reenactments. The list; of course; includes the expected famous sites of the war - Gettysburg; Vicksburg; Shiloh; Antietam as well as the less famous sites such as New Market and the Graffiti House at Brandy Station. You can look at the book as a "To Do" list (or as others have called the Civil War Bucket List) or use it to look at the range of Civil War experience. Divided into regions of the country; the book can provide a list of suggestions as you travel the country. Each experience has a page or two explanation as to why it appears on the list and the importance of the experience. Distilling the conflict into a list of 150 to-do items is; of course; controversial; is not exhaustive and will incite debate. For the curious; it's a great starting point for someone interested in exploring the war or those who don't want to have to sift through an exhaustive guidebook of Civil war sites; and enjoyable for both the casual explorer and the seasoned Civil Warrior.8 of 8 people found the following review helpful. Civil War bucket listBy Craig DokkenThis was a interesting book; I am creating a list of Civil War things to do on a 2 week trip back East. This book had a lot of things I wanted to do. I am hoping to do 20 items on the list.I have already done a few of the items. The book has many items of interest; the part about CW movies was something I could do from home.I found a CW roundtable in the area and plan to check that out in Sept. I could go on with many other things mentioned in the book. Just get it; it is a great book to own if your interested in the Civil War.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful.
