I use it for my Chuch History courses that I teach at a Bible school and the students find it both informative and interesting. Sometimes history books can be a bit dry; but not this one-Shelley is basically telling the reader a 2000 years story. The only downside was that it devoted only one section to the Medieval Church which was a thousand year period. Other than that; it is a valuable resource. I don't understand why it's out of print. Fortunately; it is still available on kindle.1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. I have the Kindle edition and love it. I am reading it a few pages ...By Mr. Ronald E. MillerI have the Kindle edition and love it. I am reading it a few pages at a time. I have studied Church History in a class; in an online class; have read several books; but there is a LOT to learn. So I am slowly reading this and thinking about it. HIGHLY RECOMMEND as perhaps the second church history book to read; the Christian History Made Easy by Rose Publishing is what I would read first (easier and smaller) and also teach an adult class from (and a powerpoint set can be found at the Rose Publishing website); but this Church History in Plain Language is what I would study. It tells not just what happened; but what it means and parallels to today.8 of 8 people found the following review helpful. Very EnlighteningBy CustomerThis book talks about the history of the Christian Church from the time of Christ until the present: The councils; the contracts; the proclamations; the movements and variations on doctrine; etc. It is overwhelmingly filled with facts and dates; as one would expect;however It is very informational; enjoyable and easy reading (with a little humor injected here and there.) I have learned more about the background and tenets of my faith from this book than in my 35 years as a Christian!
