(You could also refer to this as the classic debate between Calvinism and Arminianism).Sadly; I was part of a church for two years that preached a "semi-Arminian" (you can 'throw away' your salvation) view; which really in a nutshell is still Arminianism (you can lose your salvation). This book was instrumental in helping me to slowly recover from the fear and dejection I felt after suffering under Arminian preaching. I'm so glad that Christ really does "choose us for life;" and that He is indeed the Good Shepherd that will hunt us down (sometimes referred to as the "Hound of Heaven") until he finds us again. Sam Storms does an amazing job clarifying Scriptures that support the concept of Election (thank God there are so many!); encouraging us in our Eternal Security; while at the same time helping us to understand some of the more difficult passages that Arminianists use to support their stance.Overall; after reading this book I believe you will feel much more confident in your faith; and hopefully somewhat relieved that your faith is in His hands; not your own. With this knowledge; you can learn to serve Christ out of love and admiration; instead of out of fear...for Christ himself said; "Don't be afraid; only believe."1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. An Open And Shut CaseBy Ronnie NicholsThis a simple and clear teaching on the Doctrine of Election. I have been very greatly blessed and provoked to dig deeper by Sam Storms writings (Thy Kingdom Come- The Amillennial Alternative) and would recommend this book for anyone who is still wrestling with election; the Doctrines of Grace; Reformed Theology; and the Order of Salvation. Don't forget to read the Appendixes. You'll find a great rebuttal to open theism; and most of the material cited for reference are must owns for any teachers library. Thank you Mr.Storms0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Five StarsBy Casey SandbergThis is a great comprehensive and systematic study of predestination; election; and free will. A must read!
