In early 1965; the United States had about 23;000 troops in South Vietnam. Through that date; 140 Americans had been killed in action; 1;138 had been wounded and 11 were listed as missing. On March 8; American combat troops (Battalion Landing Team 3; Ninth Marines of the 3d Marine Division) came ashore at 9:02 a.m. on Red Beach 2: by June 1; 1965; 50;000 troops were stationed in the country. The escalation had begun. This is a chronological listing of more than 600 Army and Marine combat operations from 1965 through 1973. The book arrived used and looked new and had not been opened.4 of 4 people found the following review helpful. This is a really good book for beginners to learn the basicsBy WKSwansonThis is a really good book for beginners to learn the basics; but there is also a lot in there about general strategies and tactics for advanced learners. I bought 4 copies for the kids in the high school where I teach to help them get a sense of the game. They; boys and girls; like the book quite well and say that it has taught them a lot. When teens like a book; that is quite an accomplishment.2 of 4 people found the following review helpful. I am so disappointed about this bookBy Dan LiI am so disappointed about this book; because the book is not really about Art of War and Chess; it is just about Chess; the Art of War part was all messed up. First of all the book do not talk about the Art of War in its entirety; but only give you some short quote of the Art of War. Most of the thing the book claim is from Art of War can not even be found in the Art of War; and the parts may be from the Art of War was all translated in the wrong way (you will end up learning things made up by the Author; not from the actual Art of War. ) The Author clearly do not understand Art of War at all. The book give you completely wrong idea of the Art of War. This book will make you dumb (if you quote anything from this book; those who understand the Art of War will laugh at you); and is total waste of your time.Example of the BS in the book:Page 46: "The direct and the indirect lead on to each other in turn. It is like moving in a circle -- you never come to and end. Who can exhaust the possibilities of their combination?" The "direct and indirect" is a mistranslation of Chinese word "奇æ£"; it is a complex word even most Chinese do not understand it truly; and I have no time to explain it here; but it is certain not meaning direct and indirect; it has nothing to do with it!Page 68 quoted from the Art of War: "He who knows these things; and in fighting puts his knowledge into practice; will win his battle. He who knows them not; nor practises them; will surely be defeated." The author claim that this means you need practice more in order to win the battle. This make sense except it is not what Art of War never said it.Page 75 quoted from the Art of War:" The rules of Stratedgy are few and simple; they may be learned in a week". Never seen such thing in the Art War.I don't have time to list all the errors in the book; they are about 80% of the whole book! The author never bothered to read the real book of Art of War; instead they looked up some fake quote or mistranslation of the real book.If you want to learn fake Chinese wisdom; go ahead buy this book.By the way; If you doubt what I am saying; I can tell you this; I have been studying Art of War since I was a child; my father is expert on Art of War in China; his name is Li Ling; if you don't believe; just look my father up on the internet.Don't learn the fake stuff!
