The title is unfortunate; as it doesn't really convey what this book is about. Disguising himself as a German reporter (the author; originally from Israel; speaks Hebrew; Arabic; English and German); he travels all over Israel and the West Bank; interviewing people from all walks of life; from illegal immigrants in Tel Aviv to members of the Knesset; Bedouin farmers; Palestinian activists; Jewish settlers; European NGO members; soldiers; prostitutes; taxi drivers; journalists; rabbis; foreign diplomats; waiters - you name it. He has a genius for getting people to open up to him; and a wry; absurd way of looking at the world. The access he was able to obtain is breathtaking: often at great risk; he talked his way into high-level PLO headquarters; an Israeli battleship; placed himself in the middle of a violent demonstration; and hiked all over the West Bank with Palestinian politicians. Through it all; his love of his subjects is palpable. If you read only one book about Israel; please make it this.4 of 4 people found the following review helpful. Honest Honestly DisturbingBy Forever A. ReaderThis book was an amazing read; but left me feeling sick to my stomach by the manipulative fictions outright hatred being funded and carried out mostly by European; but also American influence against Israel and Jews specifically; to the tune of billions of dollars/Euros/Shekels. The role that foreign "journalists" and so-called diplomats and "peace" activists play in this charade disgusts me utterly. The secretive; hypocritical ICRC and UN is criminal; but they apply this label only to Jews. It seems that creating International Law does not require adherence by the creators themselves; and their public face of "peacemakers" hides a dark; sinister reality of hatred for Jews; plain and simple. Thank you for the mountain of information; Mr. Tenenbom; despite the risk to your life. I pray that Jews and all who support Israel will read this; and that it will wake them up to the very real and powerful threat to Israel; and indeed; to all Jews everywhere.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Sad but true is continued hatred of Jews.By slickExcellent book but very upsetting. The method that information is obtained is through chatting with what i'd call; the '"real" people that would minimally edit the questions that Tuvia asks. The anti-Jew; anti-Israel; pro-Palestinian views are shocking in that they are a constant in this book; a constant no matter whom he talked with. Tuvia consistently tries to determine exactly why the Jew is so discriminated against; as always; the response is a switch to meaningless dribble; and a direct support of anything Palestinian. Another concerning fact is the support by Germany; of anything Palestinian; and the continued efforts to destroy the Jews. It never ends and the book is another reminder of the fact that hatred of Israel isn't changing and in fact appears to be operating at an even deeper level in Europe.Sad; upsetting; not light hearted as the cover of the book would suggest.
