Castle Garden And Battery Park; NY (Images of America)

DOC Castle Garden And Battery Park; NY (Images of America) by Barry Moreno in History

Description

Since 1982; Nigeria has experienced more than ten large scale ethnic or religious riots in its major cities. These violent clashes have wreaked economic; political; and social havoc; caused an enormous number of deaths and injuries; and posed serious obstacles to Nigeria's sociopolitical development as well as retarded efforts at nation-building. The papers collected in this book serve as a critical part of an overall objective to develop and promote mechanisms for the understanding and resolution of ethnic and religious conflicts in Nigeria. Both academic and community leaders address various aspects of these conflicts; and Uwazie offers several thoughtful options for their successful resolution. Inter-Ethnic and Religious Conflict Resolution in Nigeria will interest students of African history and current affairs; scholars of anthropology and ethnicity studies; and those involved in international relations and peace studies.

JohnsonBetween about 1855 and 1892 (when Ellis Island opened); millions of primarily European immigrants passed through New York's Castle Garden. This short book provides and overview of Castle Garden's history before; during; and after this period. The abundant photos show the Garden and many of the people who went through it. A fascinating; easy read.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. The only thing constant is change! Who said that?By Grace BattjesIf you come from NY and lived in the 1930's this book has a special treat with photos of the original aquarium. I went this with my Dad when I was young and lived the experiences over again. But more than that it does talk about the history and the people who built and destroyed buildings as the times changed. New York is always in transition. That is why we have to go back there and walk the streets again and again.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful.
