Fascinating depiction of Roman Civilization.By Andrew BreedloveDurant brings the Roman civilization to life with a in-depth look at the structure of culture and government. I found his work on Jesus and the early church a fascinating depiction of a hotly debated topic. He handles it with great class and scholarly acumen. It was hard to put this book down even though I have heard many of the names and stories before. Durant provides great context and insight in this 3rd volume on Civilization. This is a classic and well worth your time. I enjoyed the writing style and layout and would recommend this book as a great introduction into Roman history.1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. A great book worth readingBy AreaderIt may have been published in 1944; but it contains a lot of factual information and detail that is still relevant today - great read. I would recommend it to anyone who is looking for background information on these subjects today.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. If you love history....By jcThe best book I've ever read. I love history and this book delves into every nook and cranny of the period. I ended up buying the collections of many of the philosophers and orators covered in the book. I've read it twice and bought 3 hard copies to give to others. It is an amazing read.
